Here are some common questions one might ask before stepping into a tattoo studio:

Q. I'm getting my first tattoo, what is the process and where do I start?

A. First thing you'll want to do is get an idea of what you are looking for (style, location, size, etc). Once this is figured out, we can let you know if it is possible. Not all ideas for tattoos are ideal for just any place or size. There's a minimum size for highly detailed tattoos. The reason for this is that we don't want to cram a bunch of detail in a small area. Over the years, your tattoo will grow and change with you, and we want to give you a tattoo you will love for a long time.

The next step after this would be to either call our shop to schedule a free consultation or to come down to the shop in person to schedule your appointment! Not all tattoos require a consultation beforehand, but we do recommend them for larger projects and coverups.

Q. Do you require a deposit?

A. We do require a cash deposit for all appointments. Smaller tattoos require an $80 deposit, larger tattoos require a $150 deposit. Deposits are non-refundable. Deposits do come off the cost of the tattoo when you get it done. Deposits are forfeited if you violate our 48 Hour Reschedule Policy or No Call No Show your appointment.

Q. How much does a tattoo cost?

A. As vague of a question this can be, there is sort of a right answer for it. Cost depends on many factors; size, detail, color or black and grey, etc.

Squid’s Ink Tattoo has a $100 minimum. This means, you could get anything from a small dot to a small-sized word and it will most likely fall around our minimum cost.

The time/cost difference between a cartoon style, high contrast, black and grey lion, and a realistic portrait of a lion all of the same size could be hours. So always consider this when planning and budgeting for your next tattoo. Our artists charge roughly $150/hour.

Q. Do you guys do white tattoos (white ink only)?

A. We will always recommend going to the traditional route with black ink. The reason for this is that white ink can either fade over time, or it can turn yellow or green once it is healed. For this reason, no artists here currently offer white ink tattoos.

Q. How old do I have to be in order to get my tattoo?

A. Per the Pembroke Board of Health, we are not allowed to tattoo anyone under the age of 18. You must present a valid State or Government issued ID at the time of check-in for your appointment. NO ID = NO TATTOO.

Q. Do you offer a free touchup on your tattoos?

A. Squid’s Ink Tattoo does offer free touchups on your tattoo once the tattoo is fully healed. The only areas we do NOT guarantee touchups are on the hands/fingers, wrists, feet, and inner lip. This is because these areas are notorious for fading quicker than any other areas. We will always warn you before getting your tattoos on these specific spots.

Q. What should I bring to my appointment? How do I prepare?

A. The most important thing to do before getting a tattoo is to make sure you have had a filling meal and drink plenty of water. Make sure you get plenty of rest the night before. You must bring a valid State or Government Issued ID for your consent form in order to be tattooed. No ID = No Tattoo; no exceptions. We will not tattoo anyone who appears to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason. We are cash only. There are two ATMs in our parking lot if needed.
