Tattoo aftercare 101
- The average healing time for a tattoo is two to three weeks.
- When you get home from your appointment at Squid’s Ink Tattoo you will want to remove the plastic wrap from your tattoo and wash it with antibacterial soap. Then, apply a thin layer of the aftercare ointment of your choice. We recommend Redemption All Natural aftercare; we sell both their foaming tattoo wash and their ointment in the lobby.
- During the healing period of your tattoo, you will want to wash your tattoo and apply ointment to it two to three times a day.
- You can shower as you normally would while healing your tattoo; you will want to avoid leaving it submerged in water for long periods of time (ie: bubble baths) while it is healing as this can soften the scabs of your tattoo and cause them to come off prematurely.
- You will want to avoid scratching or picking at your tattoo while it is healing. Light slaps to the area tend to help alleviate the itchiness that comes with healing a tattoo.
- You will want to avoid swimming in pools, lakes, oceans, etc. while your tattoo is healing. The chemicals and microorganisms can cause an infection.
- You will want to avoid tanning and excessive sun exposure on your healing tattoo. A sunburn on top of a healing tattoo can cause several complications. Sunscreen is your best friend for the life of your tattoo!
- If for any reason your tattoo get stuck to any fabric while it is healing, soak the fabric with water until it loosens naturally; do not rip it off.
